Who doesn't love a festival?
It's a valid question though, who doesn't? There are plenty of things to dislike about them, like the fact that you cant wash for 3 days, everything gets all muddy, your phone isn't charged and there are big crowds, like everywhere. TBH there's probably more to hate than to love, but we sacrifice it for the"right of passage" teenage festival experience of getting drunk with your mates in a field, throwing yourself around in mosh pits and raving in silent discos. And purely for that we all love a festival! Girls revel in the excuse to dress up exactly as they would if they were attending Coachella; with the glitter, the gems, the hippie clothing and wacky wellies. (And I take absolutely no shame in saying that I plan for months on end beforehand to do the exact same thing!) Boys, on the other hand, train hard so that they are able to finally bring out their summer vests and show off their physique, despite the weather probably being foul, as it is still England (although that's easy to forget at a festival)! Any boy without a bandanna is obviously only there with a day ticket, because it is a fashion staple piece which must be worn in one way or another if you are a serious male festival goer.
My Festival Must Haves:
Welly

If you don't have wellies you're screwed. Like seriously, you really can't go to a festival wearing nice shoes, because it doesn't matter how proper and clean you are you WILL get them ruined- like seriously people don't even risk taking their Hunter Welly boots because even they are too good for festivals. Not to mention that at a festival, wellies are fashionable. When I plan my outfits, wellies are the first thing I factor in (and I aspire to have glitter ones this year!)

Hair
|
When I said girls dress up like they are going to Coachella, I mean it. The more hippie your hair, the more happy your experience. Therefore, you will need plenty and plenty of ties and accessories, oh and a friend who can become your personal hairdresser. From feathers to rings, glitter (ofc) to flowers, the more s*** in your hair the better. For more ideas for hair, follow the link to my Festival Pinterest board at the bottom of the page, where most of my pins are hair inspo!

Florescent
|
If you can get your hands on florescent paint before you head off to the festival, you will seriously be saving yourself a FORTUNE! There's no way you are going to make it through the 3 days and not want to paint yourself all over until you light up like a Christmas tree under UV lights, and the festival teams know that so can charge anywhere up to £10 per tiny bottle- so remember to get some beforehand.

As I stated above, the fashion is Coachella to the MAX! Bohemian makeup, with the pinks and light browns, the insane highlighter and of course the GEMS! On top of the glitter, you have to stick on loads of gems- and even if they are destined to fall off within the first half an hour, at least they were probably still there for most of the pictures!

How are you going to master the bo-ho look without a large mirror? I'm not talking floor length (although that would be great) but just a mirror that's larger that the pocket ones- because, seriously girl, you have no hope of achieving it with one of those! Also, is it just me or is the lighting in tents absolutely crap?! Make sure you have a makeup station set up outside is my advice!

Shawls &
|
Even if it's not, at a festival in England, you are going to dress for 30 degrees celsius weather, so you're not going to want to take anything any more heavy than a denim jacket. The ideal ones are kimonos; lightweight and go with everything, not to mention, you can't get much more bo-ho! If you're lucky and it is actually proper summery weather, you might even want to push the boat out and go with a lace shawl- you never know!

No matter how hard we try, there's no denying that you're going to a festival in England and therefore it is more than likely to rain. And the only way to stay in the festival spirit in the rain is to have a florescent/glittery/wacky raincoat! Last time people were wearing silver and gold but this year I'm opting for pink.

10x Portable Phone Chargers |
You can never seem to find your friends at a festival, the primary reason being your phones all ran out on the first day after you tagged yourself there on every social media platform you have. And as we all get told on a daily basis, us kids growing up in the 21st century are not adapted for life without our phones. Seriously, at the last festival I went to, I actually found myself saying to my friends, "when the sun is directly overhead, aka it's midday, all meet at this burger van". It didn't work of course, I ended up standing in an open patch of grass on my larry (without even being able to stand on my phone!), and we somehow all found each other! Even though the chargers never seem to work, it's worth a shot.

The problem with festival looks are...
...as much as you try, unfortunately you're unlikely to achieve the Coachella level of chic, unless your friends are makeup artists and hair dressers - and if you do, pleaseeeee tell me how you do it! The reality is; you're in a tent with no electric hair equipment, no showers and not very good lighting. You will probably be sweaty, hungover and the glitter will get EVERYWHERE!
But just trying is half the fun!
(Until you have to crawl into a sleeping bag full of glitter, that is!)
